Edibles – It’s All About Finding the Right Dose

Edibles, like the rest of the cannabis industry in our country, have come a long way in the last few decades. Back in the 90s and early 2000s, taking an edible that your friend brought to a party was risky business – there’s a chance you could have a great time, and a bigger chance that you’d end up passed out on the couch within a few hours. However, edibles have become a lot more effective and are much safer nowadays. With more regulation and policy changes in the marijuana industry, it’s much easier to find edibles from credible sellers with very specific doses and strains in them. No longer do you need to worry about what’s actually in the pot brownie that Jessica from econ brought – now you can find the right dose for you.

However, if you are new to the world of weed edibles, there are a few things that you need to know before just jumping in. Edibles, unlike smoking or vaping weed, are much longer lasting than other forms of cannabis ingestion and usually have more mixed results. Plus, there is always that person who doesn’t feel the edible kick in and decides to take another… then both edibles kick in, and they regret everything. Either way, I don’t write all of this to scare. The edible cannabis business continues to grow in the United States and is a great option for people that do not want to smoke weed. However, I thought it would be beneficial for you to have some basic information about using edibles and finding the right dose for you.

The best advice that I can give for beginners involving cannabis edibles is to start with a lower dose. Like I said earlier, edibles can be a bit unpredictable at times. For example, one of my roommates wanted to try some weed with me, but he did not want to use my vape. I decided to let him try a 10mg THC gummy that I have had nothing but great experiences with for his first time. However, my buddy did not have a good time. He ended up getting really anxious and eventually crying in his bed – needless to say, he probably had too much.

A smarter me would have given him half a gummy to start with. Experts say that it is best for beginning cannabis users to start with about 2.5mg of THC in their edible, which is definitely respectable. More experienced users will tell you that 2.5mg is nothing, but it’s more important to slowly introduce yourself to the THC rather than experience what one of my roommates did. If you are taking an edible for the first time, it is also really important to give yourself at least 2 hours to see if you “feel it” kicking in. The last thing you want to do is end up taking too much THC that hits you all at once because it took a while to set in. Unlike smoking, using cannabis edibles can actually take a while for the THC to take effect

The great thing about using cannabis edibles is that they can be used for a large variety of reasons. One of the most common ways that people use edibles are for insomnia and chronic pain. Most patients that deal with chronic pain or insomnia (or both) like to use edibles because they last much longer than THC effects from smoking or vaping. The effects from an edible can be felt upwards of 4 hours or so, which is more beneficial for someone that is looking for a longer lasting result.
