If you’re looking to use cannabis but aren’t sure of the limits of possession, the transportation, or what law enforcement might say when you’re pulled over, you’re not alone. Here are a few things that you should know.
Transportation within vehicles
Right now, those who have a driver’s license are allowed to operate vehicles that have cannabis in them. This of course, is provided that:
- It got purchased in the provincial and territorial types of retailers, or is federally licensed for medical needs
- It belongs to someone who is an adult
- Is in the original packaging and is not previously opened
- Isn’t stored within the reach of where the driver, or the occupants are able to be
- Isn’t consumed within the vehicle, for that’s illegal. The only way to exempt from this rule is if they’re used in temporary residences, such as within an RV that’s parked.
The limits
There are limits of course for this as well. For those who have it for medical reasons, they can possess up to 150 grams within a 30 day period, or whatever is authorized based on what the practitioner says. If there are plants, you can have up to four that are flowering, and not budding.
For those who are not users, they can have up to 30 grams for every single adult in their possession, and up to four of the flowering or non-budding minds of plants within there.
Of course, thee are other regulations too. Once you’ve got registration, you’re allowed to order the plants, and that’s the only way to legally source the cannabis.
The seeds and plants are only allowed to be shipped to the address that’s on the certificate of registration. This also will show how many plants are allowed to be used and produced.
The total plant number is not more than what’s allowed on the certificate, and you can also order the plants and the seeds as well again from the producer, especially good if you deal with crop failure.

You can’t have more than what’s stated on the certificate though on there than what’s on the site, for it is illegal if you do that.
How they might check this
Law enforcement does check this from time to time, and if you do notice this, you’ll want to prepare as well to prove to them that you’re allowed to have more than the 30 grams or whatever the equivalent is within the public spaces that are there.
This is usually found through giving them one of the following:
- Registration forms for production
- Registration forms for possession
- A document from a seller that’s licensed too
If you do have this, you can’t transport it across borders without the agreement. It doesn’t matter if it’s when you’re entering or leaving, or what the law enforcement says, if you’re going to transport it across different borders, whether territory or country borders, you need to be mindful of this.
If you’re using this, you have to consume it within the country, and you should never bring this in either.

Transporting and using cannabis is quite different from other places, and there are a lot of different regulations. Always be careful of what you’re doing, and make sure that if you’re hesitant on any of this, you make sure that you also do talk to your doctor if you’re using this medically. If it’s recreational, make sure to keep it in the bag, and keep it properly secured for the best results that you can get from this too.
